The works of the old masters strongly influences my artistic style. Their paintings evoke a sense of quietude and calm that continues to engage viewers today. My oil and pastel paintings incorporate many of the master’s techniques, allowing me to achieve a deep glow of light along with rich mysterious shadows. My love of all things that nurture and quiet the soul inspires me to paint traditional images that will stand the test of time. Winding street scenes, opulent still life and intimate landscapes are what collectors of my work enjoy most. My landscapes are composites of the myriad places I have visited in my travels throughout the world. When I begin a piece, I paint primarily from a photograph. After the sketch is completed, I abandon the photograph. This allows me to infuse the painting with my own interpretation of place and atmosphere. The use of luminous glazes along with heavy applications of pure pigment gives each painting a glow that intensifies and deepens with age. Unlike the old masters, we now live in a hectic and fast-paced world that demands our attention and time. I create works that encourage the viewer to become quiet and introspective, to linger, contemplate, and rest.
